Book Review: The Year That Changed Us by Helen Rolfe

Book Review: The Year That Changed Us by Helen Rolfe

Friendship, secrets, and second chances in a heartwarming story you won’t want to put down.

If you’re in the mood for a book that’s easy to read but still pulls you in with a genuinely good storyline, The Year That Changed Us might be your next favorite pick.

The story follows Lise and Emma—once inseparable best friends—who haven’t spoken in years after something life-changing happened during their time in Paris. When Lise returns to their hometown sixteen years later, their paths cross again, and old memories (and secrets) start bubbling to the surface. I found the story really easy to follow, but also intriguing enough to keep turning the pages.

It’s one of those books you can fly through in just a few sittings, which I personally love. Nothing overly complicated—just a warm, heartfelt story about friendship, forgiveness, and the kind of past that never truly stays buried.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Especially if you’re looking for something emotional but not too heavy. Perfect for a cozy weekend read (bonus points if you’re wearing a comfy bookish tee while reading it 😉).
